Keep Your Children Safe This Summer

If you are having weather like us right now then you are struggling to sleep at night and we have kept away our winter coats, for now. We are in the middle of having a heat wave week! It's a little weird that it was even hotter in Thailand when we visited in February! But it's really nice to have this hot weather in Wales. Finally.

Even though the hot weather is great for sunbathing and wearing dresses, shorts and vest tops, it can also be a dangerous time for babies, toddlers and children. Even adults! But today I am going to give some tips and advice for keeping your children safe this summer. Along with extra advice by keeping babies and toddlers safe too.

SUNCREAM
When the sun is out it is always advisable {and very important} to put sun cream on your child {any age}. Usually on the back of the bottle it tells you when to put it on your child's skin. I put it on before we go out and whilst we are out and topping it up every few hours. Make sure you put the cream all over the skin which is not covered.

HATS
I know some children don't like wearing hats. With babies you can buy some hats that can close on the bottom of their chins, so that may be a good hat to buy if your baby keeps pulling it off. Worked for Mia and Elliw. If your child has very short hair {or no hair at all} but won't wear a hat then it won't hurt just to put suncream on their heads too.

COVER UP
It may also be best to cover up your child {all ages}. A light long-sleeved top to cover arms. Or thin leggings for girls {and boys!}. But that decision is up to you. If you don't want to cover them up with light clothing then you can just cover them up in suncream.

NO BLANKETS ON PRAMS
I don't know if anyone has read any articles on the subject of putting blankets over prams and carseats with newborns and babies. I would advise you not to do this. Especially when it's hot. Buy a parasole, an extra hood or a snoozeshade. You can read more about it here.

FLUIDS
Hot weather can make you thirsty a lot more than usual. So be sure to bring a bottle or water or diluted juice around with you if you are going out and top them up with fluids every so often so they don't get dehydrated.

Have you any tips for keeping children safe this Summer?

  2. Great post lovely and some good tips, I've seen loads of people use a blanket as a sunshade and it always struck me as being a bad idea! Thanks for linking up to #PicknMix Fridays at www.acornishmum.com
