5 Reason Why You Shouldn't Blog

Many people have come up to me or messaged me asking me how to start a blog. Don't get me wrong, it's really easy to start one up but to actually blog and be a blogger is much more. Before even starting a blog, there are many things you need to think about and these are 5 reasons why you shouldn't blog -

 1. YOU WANT THE 'FREE THINGS' - God knows how many people have asked me how do I get 'free things' with my blog. Of course I feel greatful that I get these 'free things' through my blog but it's not as easy as you think. You need time to review the product, take photos of the product, time to write your honest opinion about the product and promote your review through social media once you finished. If you do get to the stage where you have the opportunity to review a product, you will understand that in the end it is part of being a blogger.

2. NO TIME - You need time. A lot of time to blog. I'm not talking an hour a day or a couple of hours a week either. On average, I blog about 20-30 hours a week on my blog. Sometimes writing a post can take you up to an hour or a couple of days to write up. You need time to promote your blog, engage with your readers, time to reply to comments, time to visit and comment other blogs, time to build up your blog and keep it up to date.

3. HEART NOT IN IT - If you're heart isn't into blogging, if your heart isn't into taking photos, if your heart isn't into writing then there is really no point in your starting a blog. Is there? To be a blogger, you need to enjoy it. You can't be successful in something what your hear isn't into.

4. YOU'RE NOT PATIENT - Let's be honest, page views and gaining readers doesn't come overnight. Just like loosing weight, you can't loose a stone over night (that would be great though!). You need to work for it. You need to promote your blog. If you started your blog as a hobby and you want to work on it harder to work with PR's then again, you need pa tient. They will come to you eventually. Put in as much hours as you can into your blog. If you're not a patient person, then blogging might not be for you.

5. NO IMAGINATION - Every blogger needs some kind of imagination to write posts. It's always good to have some kind of humour in some posts that you write. A bloggers mind works 24/7, trust me! If you have no thoughts for content for your blog then starting a blog may not be for you.

Writing all that above, let me just state that you don't have to be a professional photographer, you don't even have to be a great photographer either. As long as you have a camera or a phone with a good camera, that is good enough! You will more than likely gain more readers if you have photos on most of your blog posts.

Do you have any other tips?

  1. Such good points! I really agree about the heart being in it one -- there are days when I'm distracted and I think you can tell in the writing! And of course the time commitment! Thanks for sharing #sharewithme

  3. Hi, this is very true. I blog because I enjoy it. I feel like I am doing something creative and productive. I don't make a penny - I haven't tried, but it takes up a lot of time. Thanks for your tips #sharewithme

  5. I really want to make a success of my blog, but the time commitment is something I struggle with. Not because I don't want to put the time in, but because I work full time I just don't have enough hours in the day...it scares me that it means I'll never make a go of it.

  6. Yep, your heart definitely needs to be in it to win it! It is a lot of work and you can't do it unless you really love it. I agree on the freethings bit as well - I absolutely hate it when people refer to review items as freebies. Um no, I spend time on reviewing it, taking pics, writing, promoting, and on top, I publish it on a ready-made marketing platform (a ka my blog). That most definitely is not a freebie! #brilliantblogposts

  9. Some very good advise. I'm new to the whole blogging thing, it's only been a month. I'm really enjoying it so far and connecting with lots of other people who are going through similar things. It does take way more time than I thought though and I might be getting slightly addicted to Twitter.

  10. Love this post, you're 100% spot on! Free Stuff is never free - the novelty of "oh, I got a freebie!" soon wears off after hours of editing photographs! Ray xx #mmwbh

  14. Argh the time thing is what worries me most. And the photos-I'm a terrible photographer! I love writing and that's why I do it, but I find the promotion aspect hard, and I've only just started to promote my blog! Always good to read posts from people with more experience at making a success of blogging than me!

  15. This is so true. The time and the mind working overtime all the time thinking about material and writing and what's next is pretty tiring some days. But I love it - so what's that's out! I think it is that I have found my mojo! Great read. Mel xx #binkylinky

  16. Totally agree. So many people I know have started blogging thinking it's easy only to give up a week or so later after they realise how hard it is and how much time it is. It takes a good while to build up followers, readers and to gain the stats needed too. Thanks for writing this post, very informative to those thinking about starting a blog. 17. Your 5 points are sooo true!! Completely agree with you. I've been only blogging for 3 months but I understand now all of it! It is such a hard work. Right now I feel that blogging has become 90% of my daily life activities. It is also very addictive. I love blogging but there is so much behind it that people don't see. Thanks for sharing, :-) xx

  24. If I ever feel like the passion is lacking, I take a break for a few days. I think it shows when a post has been forced. x

  25. I totally agree! Lots of my friends say "oooh you got that for free". Well, no actually, I didn't. I had to spend my time researching, reviewing, writing, promoting etc.. and that comes at a cost. I am so terrible for the imagination thing too; when I have time to blog, I can't think of anything and then when I have thought of something, I don't have the time! Time to get a blogging diary and my notepad out! #binkylinky x

  26. I agree - when I first started my blog, I had no idea what went into it. Luckily, I loved it! I'm not a massive fan of taking photos (to be honest, that's because I'm rubbish at it) but as that is a pretty small part of it, I can live with that. #thelist
