Make The School Run More Fun and Less Stressful

Waking up before the sun rises to get yourself and the kids ready can be pretty hard work. Especially if they don't listen, which happens every day (nearly) in this house. In time you will get used it (kind of) and it will be part of your daily routine but no one likes getting up extra early, do they?

There are ways to make your school run fun and less stressful. Here are some tips you could take on board -

BE PREPARED
Prepare the kids lunch boxes, uniform and shoes the night before. This will give you more time not to rush and maybe do a few chores in the house before the kids go to school. Preparing things ready for yourself and the kids the night before is a must-do in my house. There is nothing worse than rushing around in the morning with such little time. When your stressed - The kids get stressed.

MAKE TIME
Even if it means getting out of bed a little earlier. Make sure you have enough time to get yourself and the kids ready. You will get used to how long it takes to get yourself ready, the kids fed, washed and dressed and how long it takes to walk or drive to school.

BE CALM
It doesn't matter if the kids are just a couple of minutes late for school. Don't make yourself stressed out over it and try not to take it out on the kids either. You don't want to send your kids into school in a bad mood and you don't want to be in a bad mood with them whilst they go off to school either, you will feel guilty... all day!

PLAY A GAME
You might think that there isn't enough time to play games whilst on a school run, but there is. If you have the kids' school uniforms laid out ready, you could play a game too see who can get dressed the quicker. If you have one child then this race could be between you and child. This will also make them laugh which means happy kids!

WALK WITH SOMEONE
I walk up with one of my close friends and her kids. We have recently walked on a path behind houses so the kids can run ahead and we don't have to worry about a road or cars. It's always great to have some company on the way to school.

BED EARLY
School mornings are early for most people. Some people have to wake up between 6AM - 7AM. An early bedtime routine is very important for children if they have school. They have to be in school for a good few hours and work, so be sure to let them have enough sleep.

  1. Great tips. As I have a child with ASD we use visual cues too with the morning routines on. It is harder on days I work. I prepare a sandwich for the boys breakfast the night before. preparation is key to smooth mornings. #justanotherlinky

  6. Thanks for these tips. The mornings have settled down for us now that my daughter is getting transport into school (that's the theory anyway), but it's going to get very interesting once my son gets to school age. At the moment, making sure she has clean uniform is enough of a challenge. #justanotherlinky
