Gro-Clock Review

I must admit, I have been very lucky since day one with Mia. She has always been a good sleeper, even in the hospital she was the only quiet baby on the ward and slept through most of the night. She had her first full night sleep at 3 months old. She co-slept with me as I was single at the time so I had the room in my bed. We co-slept until roughly 7-8 months when I decided it was about time she started sleeping in her cot. She would wake up between 1 and 3am every night but eventually she stopped at the age of 2 and has slept all night since.

Elliw on the other hand was different. It took her 7 months until she had a full night sleep. She still wakes up now and then. Elliw is an early bird but sometimes it is a bit too early. We have got into a good routine of getting them both to bed by 7pm every night but the mornings can be a struggle when Elliw wakes up extra early, sometimes before the sun even comes up.

The Gro Company got in touch with me a couple of months back asking if I would like to review a GroClock. I instantly said yes as I thought it would be perfect to try and help stop the very early morning and also learn Elliw more about the time. We have used this clock a few times, not all the time yet because I am wanting to move them both into the same bedroom and that is when we will be using it on a daily basis.

This clock is really simple and very simple for children to understand. The Sun means it is ok to wake up and get out of bed, meaning 'Morning' and the blue star means it is too early and still sleep/bedtime. Elliw is 3 (nearly 4) years old and has understood this clock pretty well considering. The times we have had this clock out, Elliw has been staying in bed until the Sun pops up! The Gro-clock has had a new feature by allowing parents to decide if they want the digital time to show or not. I think the new feature is great as it can grow with your child. Once both girls are in one room and when the clock is out every night, I will be sure to have the digital time out as Mia is learning her time at school. A storybook also comes with the Gro-Clock which the girls love to listen to in the evenings before bed.

If you are struggling with early mornings or struggling with a child who does not sleep, I would recommend this Gro-Clock from The Gro Company. It has worked wonders for us when we have used it and it is a great simple way for your child to learn and understand the difference between morning and night time. You can find out more information and more about when you can buy a Gro-Clock over on the Gro Company website.

  1. Oh I've seen this before and thought it would be a fab clock for Sylvia. I love the whole concept and it really does look fab. Thanks for a great review. I agree it would be great for any child struggling to get up in the AM.

  2. I've considered buying this for Ben, especially in the Summer he can wake up early! But have never done so. The new added feature of the digital clocks sounds great for helping teaching your children time.

Will consider purchasing if Ben does his usual thing in the Summer of waking up before 7am!

  9. We have a Gro Clock too and I love it - we started a bit earlier with my daughter, but certainly since she's been about three it's been fantastic. Even if she wakes up early, she'll lie in bed until the 'clock is awake'. Which is usually the first thing I hear shouted each day. She's now starting to use the numbers on the digital display too for eg quiet time after lunch, even if she can't read them as time properly.

  17. We have a gro clock - it's a great idea, although hasn't worked with N. He sleeps well, but is an early riser. He just used to fiddle until the blue turned to yellow. Now he just leaves it and tells me 'it's only got one star left'. Grrr.
