Our Family Holiday in South Wales {Part #1}

I was pretty busy in the first week of the Easter holidays but I had no plans in the second week and wasn't quite sure what to do with the girls. My partner had mentioned going down South Wales to see my little brother, S, and although I was really interested in going down there, I didn't actually think we would go. But last minute we booked a hotel in Llanelli and we then told the girls (which they got super excited about).

My partner booked two days off work, Monday and Tuesday. We woke up extra early on Monday morning and managed to pack our bags, pack the car and get ourselves ready and into the car by 8am. It was a 3+ hour car journey and we wanted to spend most of the day doing something in Llanelli, so that is the main reason to why we started our journey so early. The girls were really excited and most of the way down they were well behaved and did a lot of colouring, singing and napping. We had about 2 or 3 small stops on the way so it broke up the journey a little. The last hour they girls were getting a little fed up but they were really happy once we arrived.

We weren't able to check into our hotel until 2pm and we had arrived just before 12pm. So we decided to meet up with my Dad and my little brother and we went to Pembrey Park. I remember visiting Pembrey park when I was younger and I knew since we booked the hotel that I wanted to go there with the girls. Pembrey park has many things to do and I really do recommend the place if you ever visit South Wales.

We first went to the beach and we were really lucky that the sun was out and was pretty warm with a cool breeze. After the park we went for a walk into the woods and ended up in the park. We stayed in the park for the kids to play for a while before heading off for another long walk to the horse riding centre. Mia and Elliw were really looking forward to having a pony ride but in the end Elliw wasn't able to go on one because she was petrified of the cat there! So Mia had two pony rides instead as Elliw just wasn't calming down at all.

After a good few hours at Pembrey Park we headed off for some late lunch at McDonalds. There was an indoor play area in McDonalds so we were there for over an hour. We then went back to the hotel and checked ourselves in. The room at Sessille Oak was really nice and enough room for us all. There was one double bed with two single beds for the girls. In the price you get free breakfast (which is a plus!). After an hour or so, we got ourselves ready and went to the pub restaurant right next to the hotel. The food was lovely. After food we settled down for the night. Considering the hotel is near quite a busy road, it was pretty quiet. Before settling to sleep me and my partner decided to take the girls to Cardiff for the day and night the following day, so he booked one extra day off work.

Day Two
After a good night sleep and waking up around 6.30-7am (thank you Elliw!), we started packing and went out for breakfast at the same restaurant we had our meal the previous night. After breakfast we decided to get everything in the car and set off to Cardiff. On our way, we stopped at my partners Aunt's house for an hour or so before making the rest of the journey.

When we arrived at Cardiff, check in at Travelodge wasn't until 3pm so we decided to have a walk around the central and go to Weatherspoon's for lunch. We didn't really have a clue where we were but we made ourselves around, with a lot of walking! We then decided to get a taxi to Cardiff Bay. I have heard many people talking about Cardiff Bay and if I am honest it is totally different to what I had imagined. It wasn't bad there, but the girls did enjoy themselves.

We walked along the Bay and went to see how much it would cost to see the Doctor Who Experience Museum but it was over £40+ for us all so we decided to give it a miss. We went to the café for a drink and went to some World of Boats which was only £10 to go in but it was quite disappointing. The girls enjoyed finding things on their treasure map though.

We then took the girls to the park and another small walk before heading back to the hotel to check-in. We relaxed at the hotel and we were shocked to be given such a massive room. There was so much space. We went to have food at the Weatherspoon's next door to the Travelodge we were staying and then we settled for the night.

Here is the rest of our photos from day one and two:

  7. I love Cardiff. The Dr Who experience is great fun but I guess it can be pricey for a family. You should have popped down to my little seaside town 20 miles away ;)

  26. It sounds like a lovely break! I'm always a bit mystified as to why Cardiff Bay is advertised as an attraction - I mean, when I worked in the Bay it was nice enough to get a meal or whatever, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to go there.

    Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next Sunday x
