7 Weeks Postpartum {& Breastfeeding}

It's been 7 weeks since I gave birth to my little boy, Freddie. I really can not believe how fast these 7 weeks have gone. It's been a hectic few weeks with ups and downs but I wouldn't change a thing as I have had some amazing times in between with the girls and Freddie. One thing I am so glad I have done and stuck to is breastfeeding. I did kind of know I would of stuck to it as I was so determined not to give up and not once during the 7 weeks did I think about giving up.

How I Feel
There is no point lying or painting a 'perfect' picture because these 7 weeks have been hard. The girls have been off school for their summer holidays and having to adjust life to be a mum of 3 has been difficult. My partner went back to work when Freddie was 2 weeks old and it was a shock to the system when he returned to work. He took the kids out a lot during the first two weeks, so I had the time to bond with Freddie and time to get used to breastfeeding but when he returned to work it was hard going. I went for my postpartum check up on a Friday and she has told me to keep an eye out for warning signs of post natal depression and to take care of myself. Now that the girls are back in school I am hoping it will be a little easier.

Breastfeeding
I am so glad I decided to breastfeed Freddie. It is one of the best things I have ever done and I am quite proud of myself that I have been doing it 7 weeks already. Although he has tongue-tie, he latched on straight away and has done ever since. I did have to speak to my Health Visitor about how often he fed because I felt it was little too much. It was getting pretty silly as he was wanting a feed every 1-2 hours, sometimes half hour. He would then latch and feed for about 30-40 minutes. She has told me to make sure he is awake and if he falls asleep then to wake him up. I have done what she has advised and it has helped and I feel a little bit free - if I can say that - ha ha.

Otherwise, the breastfeeding journey is coming along pretty well. In the first week or so my eldest daughter was a little confused on why I was feeding Freddie without a bottle and she even told me that it was digusting the way I was feeding him. I spoke to her and explained to her that some babies get fed the same way as Freddie does and some get fed with bottle and explained other things too and since then she has been so supportive, both girls have.

Weight Loss Journey
I haven't done all that well but I haven't done badly either. I've gained 1lbs which I am ok about but of course I do need to loose it back again! In total I have lost around 20lbs but I do plan to get properly back into losing weight and I will be starting my workouts from home very soon!

  2. Oh I bet that was quite an adjustment with 3. I know how you feel about the weight but try not to put too much pressure on yourself about it. Congrats on the feeding. The on demand feeding can be w challenge with other kiddies at home too but you're doing Feb xx #marvmondays - Tammymum

  3. yap, I wouldn't worry as much for the weight loss for now, just making sure you and Freddie are feeling ok. Congrats on the feeding! I have as a goal to breastfeed at least for 6 months, but let's see when baby is finally born how that will work out :)

  4. Well done it sounds like you are getting on great! I'm a mum of one and that's hard so a mum of 3 - obviously you are doing fab! :) Don't stress about the weight! The more you breastfeed the more it'll drop off in my experience. #marvmondays

  5. This is a lovely update - sounds like you are doing fab even though being a mum of 3 must be soooo hard! Well done on your breastfeeding journey so far, and well done on explaining to your daughter about it, it's great to explain to kids that breastfeeding is completely normal and to not hide it away! Keep going, you are doing a fab job - I've been feeding for almost 14 months now after setting a goal of 6 months and I'm loving it. Don't worry too much about your weight, I found it dropped off with the feeding and it's only now our feeds have reduced that I need to actually start thinking about it! #marvmondays

  6. You should be so proud of yourself about the breastfeeding. I wish I had been able to breastfeed Little Mister H but sadly it was not meant to be. It must have been so tough when your partner went back to work and you were looking after 3 children. But you are an amazing mumma and have done a fantastic job. But as you say it should be easier now that the girls are back at school. Hopefully you will have more time to concentrate on yourself. And don't push the weight loss too much. It is much better for you to look after yourself and give your body what it needs. Weight loss will happen. Just try to relax. Hugs Lucy xxxx

  7. Well done lovely with the breastfeeding! It sounds like you are doing really, really well with it, especially as little freddie has tongue tie. My little guy was feeding quite frequently too and over the last few weeks I've managed to push out his feeds from every hour or so to every 2 -3 hours which definitely makes a difference! Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays and for all the amazing commenting you do :-) Emily
