Grandparents

I've got one set of grandparents and I try my best to make as much effort as I can to make memories with them and for my children to see them as often as they can. I lost my Great Nain 9 days after I gave birth to Elliw, which was heartbreaking but I have written a post a few months ago about the memories I had of her which you can read here. After my Great Nain passed away something clicked to me that life really is way too short. Even writing this now is making me teary just thinking about her. I just feel so lucky that I have my Nain and Taid in my life still.

The girls absolutely love visiting my Nain and Taid. We spend a few hours there most times when we visit and we will all just chat and have a laugh whilst the girls are either eating/stealing biscuits, playing on the piano in the front room, playing with the toys from the toy box in the conservatory or playing outside with their pink glittery hula hoops. Each time we visit Elliw will be the first to ask for a biscuit and they both know where the box is and god knows how much my Nain spends on biscuits with the amount my girls take! Sometimes they will manage to take some biscuits when we're not watching - ha ha! rascals.

I am greatful that my Taid or Dad took me to see my Great Nain when I was younger and it's what I plan to do with my children. I want them to have that close bond with my Nain and Taid like I do with them. I want them to have memories with them and be able to say stories and memories that they remember in years to come.

My Nain is just an amazing woman. She makes me laugh so much with the things she says. Sometimes we will talk to her and you just know she doesn't 100% understand what you mean but she will still go along with whatever you say - which is what I do most of the time too. I could talk to her for hours on end we will both always have something to say and she is always there for me. She knows very well how to have a good laugh and we always do when we visit.

My Taid is also amazing. I feel like my Taid and I have a lot of things in common. For starters, you will always see my Taid with his camera and he loves taking photos - just like myself. Although most of my Taid's photos you will get half a head cut off or blurred - ha ha! It's funny looking through them but there are also a lot of decent ones. We both love looking at old photo albums and my Taid has loads of them which we have gone through a few but one day when I get the chance I would love to visit him and spend a day looking through all of the albums with him and he can tell me stories about our family. One of the main things about my Taid is that he falls asleep a lot and anywhere and the girls love waking him up. He even slept in the cinema when I was a child and I got asked to wake him up because he was snoring!

My Nain and Taid are really special people and I am so glad my children can make memories with them just like I did and still doing.

  1. Awww, this is a lovely post. It is so nice that you have such a fantastic relationship with your grandparents, as does your daughter #MarvMondays

  2. Hi Beth, I think you have the right idea. I had Grandparents, but I didn't really have a close relationship with any of them. Mainly down to geography. My children have grown up knowing my parents and seeing them regularly, sadly they never formed a relationship with my husbands parents, but that's another story!

The nice thing is you aren't just creating memories for your children, but for your Grandparents too. It was unfortunate that you lost your Great Nain when you did, but I bet she also took some happy memories with her.

  3. This is a lovely post. I am lucky to have my grandparents still with us. Parker is lucky enough to have 2 sets of grandparents, and two sets of great-grandparents. Spending time together is so precious, and I really make the effort to see them once a week. My nan and grandad did a lot for me when I was younger, so I feel an extra special love for them. #MarvMondays
