Our Cosy Living Room

When we first bought our home, nearly three years ago we decided that we wanted the back room to be our main living area. Our two previous private rented houses had long living rooms and that was something I wasn't keen on. My Dad's house had a front and a back room downstairs and this house my partner and I live in now has near the same downstairs layout as my Dad's. As the back room is the smallest room we knew we wouldn't be able to fit many things in there. This is why we decided to add some accessories to make it feel homely and a place we could relax during the evenings when the kids are in bed.

Barker and Stonehouse offered us a budget to spend on their accessories and I decided to order some cushions, copper accessories and candle accessories. My partner and I absolutely love candles and lighting them during the evenings, especially if we've had a stressful day. We find them really relaxing and make the room feel calm.

Our living room is quite small but it's just perfect to have a cosy family evening with a film and snacks. Before we moved in, we fitted in a log burner which finished the room nicely. It saves us a lot of money with gas when it's one and it makes the room feel extra cosy. Freddie loves watching the fire in the log burner and the girls love lying near (not too near) it whilst watching TV.

We have a two and a three-seater leather sofa, which one day we want to swap for a fabric. They're really big and there's only two ways we can position the sofas in our living room. I prefer it when the window is bare as I love the natural lighting, especially in the mornings. I like to decorate the window sill with accessories. My partner will buy me flowers on special occasions and he bought me a beautiful bunch on Valentine's Day which as nicely sitting on the window sill with some home accessories.

How can you make a room perfect for relaxing?

  28. We are just in the process of adding accessories to our house - we spent so much time decorating that we sort of overlooked the trinkets. I love candles too as well as homemade accessories - but now I'm very tempted by a copper pineapple!
