First Full Night Sleep In Eight and a Half Months

It was only last night I wrote how we had started a new sleep training method the night before. I was prepared for another 3 or so hours to settle him down in his cot but I shouldn't have been so worried. Why? Because he actually slept all night. For the first time ever. I fed him and settled him to sleep as normal around 8pm. He did wake up at around 9.50pm, and my partner went up to settle him. He did the same as I did the previous night, left him to cry but kept going back every 5 or so minutes, so he is reassured that he is not alone. He finally went to sleep in about half an hour. I was downstairs working, and I could hear him cry, but I had a slight feeling it wasn't going to take long because he kept on having little breaks between his cries and sometimes falling asleep before waking himself up to cry more again. I am really hoping I'm not jinxing myself writing this and hope it's another good night tonight. He woke up at 6.40am, and it felt strange waking up for the first time with a bit of sun glaring through our curtains. He had a feed in bed with me and fell back to sleep until 8am. He was full of beans and super happy through the whole morning.

I am trying to think what was different and if it was actually the first night of sleep training that helped or is it just going to be a one off? I'm not sure, we will see. I am planning to update either daily or every other day because I want to remember it all and it may be useful for anyone else who has a baby who doesn't sleep or settle in a cot properly. Freddie did have more than two hours for his nap yesterday. He's only ever done that once before, and he was a different boy after waking up. It's 1.44pm here now, and he went for his nap around 11.30am and only slept for roughly half an hour. He's had his lunch and been happy playing on the floor and currently slowly getting fed up in his jumperoo, but otherwise, he's not been too bad. I am hoping he will have another nap before 5 pm or he will be grumpy as hell around tea time.

When did your baby sleep through for the first time?

  3. It's amazing isn't?! Hopefully you'll have many more. Both of mine were awful as babies, but from around 8 months have slept 7-7 everyday. #marvmondays

  6. You sound like you're doing a great job. I would be so tired 24/7 if I had to be up out of bed every few hours for feeds etc - I suppose the change of routine will be great for you, and give you a little break if he starts to improve and sleep through the night and not cry as much! xo

  11. Congrats - nothing beats a good nights sleep after months of a new baby waking! Be careful when they lure you into a false sense of security haha x #ordinarymoments
