Wildlife at Penrhyn Castle with The National Tust

A couple of weeks ago we were asked if we wanted to go and look for some wildlife at a National Trust park in our area, I said yes immediately! I instantly knew that we could visit my favourite Natural Trust place, Penrhyn Castle. Penrhyn Castle is a 19th-Century castle and a beautiful place and I used to visit the castle when I was in primary school, college and again when I worked in a primary school. It really does bring back some childhood memories.

The grounds are just breath-taking which are perfect for taking photos and for the kids to run around. The grounds are huge and the gardens are just as beautiful. There is a beautiful walk around the castle with spectacular views to the sea and mountains.

When we arrived we were greeted and welcomed. The staff member then explained very kindly about the Easter egg hunt that was happening, the girls got excited so we said yes. The egg hunt was £2 each but it was worth it. We left the welcome centre and did a 10 minute or so walk up the castle. There is a choice of someone picking you up to drive up there too, you can ask for this at the welcome centre as you pay.

The further we were walking up the girls were getting more and more excited seeing the castle. Before starting the egg hunt we decided to check out the railyway museum which my partner had a great interest in. After we finished in the railway museum we headed off to follow the track through the forest to find the wildlife behind each door so the girls could tick each animal off. Along the way were some signs describing some of the animals and the girls loved guessing (and they were pretty good at it too!) which animal was next to find. The path was pretty muddy so I would advise some wellie boots! It was a lovely walk and on the way we found the beautiful Walled Garden which was stunning.

Before heading back to the castle we sat down to have some lunch. I was disappointed to only find one picnic bench on the groups, so we ended up sitting on a single bench. The girls had a little run around before we headed into the castle to look at the rooms. Elliw played up a little, but Mia loved every single minute of it. I do think Mia appreciated and understood a little bit more than what Elliw did so the next time I visit Penrhyn Castle will be when Elliw is a little older.

There were many friendly staff along the way, throughout the castle. The rooms were amazing and so interesting too look at. Again, this place really did take me back to my childhood. The detail in the ceilings and the rooms were just spectacular. We actually finished walking around the castle much sooner than I thought. Half way back down to the Welcome centre, we took a ride down as the wind was a bit too cold for our liking and my partner was a little to lazy to walk an extra 5 minutes or so haha!

Overall, we had an amazing day. The girls loved finding the animals behind each door. They learnt a few things on the way, all thanks to the signs on the way of the trail. They both behaved well doing the hunt and taking in turns with opening the doors and finding which animal was behind each door. The castle is well recommended to visit if you live in North Wales or decide to visit the area.

  26. Wow I've just been showing the hubby your pics. We love a good castle! It might be a while before we can get to this one as North Wales is a bit far, but we're holidaying in South Wales later this year so might have to make a detour on our way down! Looks like you all had a fab time xx

  28. Gorgeous photos - this NT property looks fab! We did the egg hunt at our local NT spot Ashridge Estate, a large forest area and the kids loved it. I think I really need to invest in a NT subscription! I also need to plan a trip to Wales I think, I went to Uni in Caerleon but have never ventured to the North. #justanotherlinky

  32. I visited Scotland once, and the castle I saw there absolutely took my breath away. Your photos reminded me of that time, and brought back tons of good memories for me. We don't have castles like that here in America, and is one main reason I would love to travel and visit again.
It looks like you had an absolutely wonderful time, and your girls look so happy. I'm loving the photos-beautiful! #justanotherlinky

  41. Absolutely breathtaking! The scenery would be enough for me. We don't have much scenery around here or places to visit in our small little town. What a great history lesson for the girls! But I'm sure tiring for mommy as being preggers is never easy trying to go out and about all day. Thanks again for hostessing #justanotherlinky.
