Redecorate or Relocate? How Do You Know?

When we first buy a house, we fall a little bit in love with its bricks. Over time though, the novelty can wear off, and we might find ourselves wondering - exactly how much do we love the home we are in?

Here are some signs that it’s time to book the man and van to get your stuff moving or to grab a few tubs of paint.

Lick of paint

As you walk around, and you are constantly pointing out things that need to be done? Or are you content with the way it looks?

Often a sign it is time to take action is when we are becoming restless with our surroundings. Most homeowners decorate when they first move in and then leave it for a while - after all, it can be expensive.

But if the way you feel about what you are looking at can’t be solved with a lick of paint or wallpaper - It’s time to start checking websites with housing listings

Visiting Others

When we visit friends and family, it is natural to take a look around and take some inspiration, but if you are looking around at the layout or the size of the home - the chances are you are ready for a change.

If you can’t afford to move home right now, then taking stock of how they have decorated might be the perfect thing.

Not invested

When you moved in, did you spend time carefully curating the look in each room? Or did you grab exactly what you needed to make it livable? If it is the latter, and you haven’t felt the urge to furnish the home to make it more comfortable, then you should probably start looking elsewhere.

When you are invested in how the property looks inside, you are making it somewhere you can see yourself living in for a long time.

Often a sign of this is heavier furniture and features that become part of the property, like extensions, conversions and other personalisation.

Loving coming home

Most often, when people have been away for a while, they want nothing more than to come home to a space they love with all of their creature comforts. If you find that you would instead be heading anywhere else but home - then it might be time to consider moving.

Restlessness

If you have already attempted to make some decorative decisions in the home, and you just find that no matter what you are doing - it doesn’t feel like it’s enough, then that is a definitive sign that you aren’t happy and should be considering your next move.

Unpacked boxes

Quite often, some boxes remain in the attic or the garage and never seem to get unpacked. By not unpacking the boxes, you aren’t committing everything you own to the house.

When we hold part of our lives in storage, it’s not worth unpacking in the back of our minds - because we won’t be staying that long.

If any of those feelings seem familiar, then it is time to consider if a lick of paint is the right choice - or should you be looking for your forever home?
