Blogger, Plumber, Teacher, Engineer, We Are Just Human

Many people these days get looked down on because of their job. Why? I have no idea. I would love to know why. So what if someone's job is too clean toilets all day, serve fast food or fixing boilers. We are all working for one reason - that reason is to earn money and live. Just because you are a teacher it doesn't make you any better than a fast food worker and just like being a manager of a high-top shop does not make you any better than a teacher either.

My first job was a nursery assistant. I am a qualified nursery worker but not high enough to be a nursery nurse. Of course, in the nursery I was working at there was a few nursery nurses and yes I had to do things they asked me to do because at the end of the day they had higher qualifications than me and it was their job to do that but does that 'higher' qualification make them a better person than me? Does it really make them a better worker than me? No it doesn't.

I worked hard in college to get my qualification. I wish I could of gone on to get my Level 3 so I could pursue my dreams of being my own boss and one day opening my own nursery but I couldn't. Not at that time because I had Mia but I was lucky enough to be able to pass my level 2 course. I then became an after-school play worker but that didn't last long due to money.

I am now a Blogger.

A proud Blogger.

I know there are people locally and over the net that are and have spoken about me being a Blogger. Maybe taking the p*ss but if I am honest, I don't care. They can say what they want to say because I have got plans, I have made targets for myself and all I can say is - watch this space! I am working hard on something that I absolutely love doing. Although I am rubbish at spelling and not very good at explaining things - I love writing, always have and always will. And I will not let anyone make me feel small for being a Blogger just because they have that 'higher qualification'.

At the end of the day a qualification is just a piece of paper. It doesn't make you better than anyone else. Why should it? Each and every one of us has worked hard to get where we are at right now. Even if people are working in places they don't want to work in, but they do it because they have too - why should they be judged?

Your boiler doesn't work or your toilet is playing up - who you going to call? A Plumber.

Your child is starting school... You need a teacher to teach your child.

You have to go back to work after Maternity leave.. You will need a nursery assistant/nurse or child minder to look after your child (or family if you're lucky)

You fancy a takeaway? A fast food worker will have to serve you that food.

You know that school your child is attending? You want it to be clean and safe don't you? The Care taker and cleaners do that job.

You want your child to cross the road safely on their way to school yes? The lolly pop woman/man will get you across safely.

You want to buy that new top for yourself in the shop? Take it to the till and the customer sales assistant will put it through the till for you and smile ever so politely.

Is there something wrong with your car? Lets take it down to the garage and let a mechanic fix it for you.

Do you want to read something interesting? Bloggers, Journalists and Writers do that.

Do you want to go out for food? The waiter/waitress will be serving you.

There are so many jobs in this world. Why should we look down at someone just because of their job? Everybody wants to get somewhere in life. They might not be at the job they love but why should they be judged. Why should they be made to feel so small because of what they do to earn money to make a living?

Next time before you judge someone by their job - take a minute and think of yourself. What is your job? Why do you do your job? Is it to earn money and make a living? - if yes, then try and think why they are working too. Also, are you going to need them one day in your life? I am sure you will.

  1. Love this! I know exactly how you feel - sometimes life turns out that you can't commit to that extra qualification but that doesn't make you any less that anyone else - your blog is great! ignore the haters - you'll be laughing when them and their higher qualifications are working for you some day :) love #sharewithme

  5. I can honestly say that I would never judge someone based on their job. We need all sorts to keep society running smoothly! And if I'm being honest, a plumber is a very important person in my book.

  6. I love this post hun. I had that thought the other day - who cares what someone does? They are earning and will be ultimatelt helping someone else. No one should feel bad for what they do. Getting up everyday and actually working is a brilliant thing. Thanks for sharing with #bestandworst and see you soon x

  7. I completely agree. I am a bar maid and some people look down on that. Honestly, I don't care what people think. I work to earn money, its that simple. It doesn't define me as a person. #sharewithme

  8. Great post and how wrong for anyone to judge, I feel it too, I feel I get looked down upon by people still in my old corporate life, as if I ducked out to buy a Holiday business in Cornwall, to me my life is richer and that of my family as a result of the move, and yes I also think of myself as a blogger on the side and I'm proud of it all. No one should judge, but I guess it is human instinct and some always will. Ignore and hold your head high, only what you think matters. #Sharewithme

  9. I love this, it's so true! Being a blogger is something to be proud of - nothing else, and if people do judge you then I think it's more their issue than ours! Us bloggers should stick together!! Lovely blog, found you on the RunJumpScrap linky! xx

  10. I worked for years in hospitality industry. First as a waitress - it was an easy to get and surprisingly well paid job - and later in office positions. I only done it to pay my way and do an Open University course at the same time. Like you I love writing, but I also love languages, so I chose a BA course which helped me develop both. It's now really helpful in my life as a blogger.
I agree that people judge other people based on their jobs, which is not right. If someone is working, no matter what they do, they deserve respect. UK has too many options for those who choose not to work, so choosing to work speaks volumes about a person.

  11. Oh this is one of the things that really gets to me. I know of a school where the teachers would look down on their assistants until they heard you were qualified in TEFL ! #sharewithme

  12. I agree, there's so much judgement around what people do for a living. My Dad always said that we can't all have dream jobs because most of us have to do the less glamorous, more necessary stuff. I used to worry that my job (admin) wasn't interesting or 'cool' enough, but now I have a baby my priorities have changed. When I go back to work I'll be more interested in finding a job that has hours and location to suit my family. If that turns out to be a Sunday shift at the local supermarket, I'll be fine with that. Keep doing what you do, I hope your plans & targets come to fruition! (Robyn @ yearsareshort, com)

  13. Hi I just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your posts. It doesn't bother me if your spelling or grammar is slightly out because I read your writing as if we are having a conversation. I feel like that's your style - as if we are talking about something. Plus also your site is very professional looking, the way your present your photos and logos is brilliant. Don't listen to the idiots, they are always just jealous people who envy what you're doing x #PicknMix

  16. I love this, it does annoy when people look down on others because of what they do for a living. I wish people would see it as we all work hard for our families to make them proud. My husband works so hard and I really appreciate how hard he works. It doesn't matter where you come from or what you do what is important is that you are happy and appreciate what life throws at you. I really enjoy reading your blog, you should be so proud of what you have achieved. #BinkyLinky

  17. Having three kids all with very different skills, talents and interests, I have no doubt that they will go on to have very different occupations and we've had to be really careful not to make judgements on their talents because it seems that most people will happily praise the one who is extremely academically gifted so we try to make sure we really value the other's art, creative and cookery skills because that it just as important and valuable too. I'm sure your girls are very proud of both their mummy and daddy and how hard you work. xxx #pocolo

  18. Well said! And you're right, a qualification is just a technical skill and that technical skill does not make you any better than someone else. It just specifies what you can do. #coolmumclub

  20. Excellent post. I worked in retail for many years and was often treated poorly by customers,as if I was not very bright. I am now looked down on for having chosen to give up work to be a sahm and being a blogger has raised a few eyebrows too! I let it wash over me, I know my own worth and those who judge others are the ignorant ones #pocolo

  21. Great post. Very true, a job is a job and it doesn't matter what job it is, it pays the bills and that's the most important thing. Being a role model to children is important and I don't think it matters what job you have, if you're working it's being a good role model for your children. Thanks for linking up to the #BinkyLinky

  22. I always like to think of it like a big machine with every person as a cog (or whatever). Some will be big, and others small, but if just one piece stops working the whole machine struggles to function. People are very judgmental based on the job you have, I find, but every role is important to that workplace and the wider world. x

  23. Beth, as a seasoned blogger, I have two things to say to you:
    1. Well done! You are a confident, organised and motivated blogger and I am sure you will reach those goals! I will follow you on social media and watch this space, as I will want to celebrate with you once you reach the professional blogger stage!
    2. People who judge do it because, guess what, they probably envy you for working towards yours dreams and are unhappy in their job themselves! Don't give them the time of your day and use that energy to move one step closer to your dream!xx

  25. Hear hear! Amazingly I got asked for the first time if I was 'just' a stay at home mum yesterday. I'm still on maternity leave from my day job but am a blogger and social media manager too to make ends meet but people just don't get it do they!?

  26. Beth youre doing a fantastic job as a blogger!! You really should be proud of yourself! I know i look up to you! Dont care what other people think.. youre great! Xxx

  27. I adore this post so, so much Beth!! It's spot on and so true. People are all too quick to judge and it's funny, I haven't shared my blog with people I know for fear of being judge, but you know, I really should. We do need everybody in the service industry, we need people to make things, to clean things, to write. I don't understand why people judge people on the jobs they do, at the end of the day people are working hard to provide for their families and that should be a big enough respect in itself! Brilliant post. Chloe - Life Unexpected xx

  28. Brilliant. People do judge and it's so unnecessary. I've been ashamedly guilty for pre-judging people by their look but, never, by their job. Work needs doing at every single level and the big people often wouldn't be where they are without the little people. A great post :)

  29. This is a fab post! I totally agree with you, there is way too much judgement around. People who judge about blogging normally haven't got a clue what it's about and what it entails. It's a hard job to keep up! You're doing amazing. I'm an operating department practitioner in my day job so i assist in operations. People think i'm some sort of hero lol! I'm clearly not. Then when it comes to blogging they think I just get stuff for free all the time. They have no idea or understanding of why any of us do it x

  30. Let them talk hun, you are doing what you love and thats all that matters! If it allows you to stay home with your children thats amazing they can get stuffed. I'm not the best speller either thank god for spell check haha, and i'm not good with my words, im rubbish at story telling etc but I love blogging and have a passion for it. You're definitely right it doesn't matter what job you have you may work harder than someone who is higher up or has a "better" job but at the end of the day at least you're trying! Great post Beth!! xx

  31. You are so right and well said. Far too many judgmental people out there . If we were all the same, the world would be a very dull and boring place. You have to ignore them, easier said than done. If their boiler stopped working, they wouldn't be intelligent enough to fix it would they? Unbelievable how people perceive themselves. Great post lovely. Xx

  32. Great post Beth! I completely agree. People are so judgemental but at the end of the day you are doing something you enjoy but also earning money from it to provide for your girls! xx

  33. I totally agree with you. I have been a cleaner, and I now work as a care worker. Two roles that have a poor reputation. The care work especially. 'Oh your just a carer?' well actually no, im not Just anything. My job is vitally important. I make the difference between a good day and a bad day for someone. I make people feel useful, wanted and valued. I think that makes my job something very special.
