23 Weeks Pregnancy Update

HOW I AM FEELINGI am feeling really excited to meeting Baby boy now. I can't wait to pass that 25 week mark and head into the third trimester. I have been feeling extremely tired this week. Not quite sure to why I have been feel so tired because apparently in your second trimester you're supposed to have more 'energy'? Other than the tiredness I have been a bit of an emotional and hormonal wreck - looking back I laugh but at the time? You never make a pregnant woman sad and never ask her why she is crying because half of the time she doesn't even know herself! Haha. It's the school holidays this week (and next week) so it's been a big change with having the girls here constantly but they have been behaving pretty well and the days are just flying by.
APPOINTMENTS
The only appointment I had related to my pregnancy is my weekly bloods for Obstetric Cholestasis.

OBSTETRIC CHOLESTASIS
I went for my blood test results and weekly bloods on Wednesday. I could of literally punched the midwife. Don't get me wrong she is nice and all BUT how she gave me the wrong information about Obstetric Cholestasis really annoyed me and upset me so much! I was giving her one word answers otherwise I would have burst into tears.

For Obstetric Cholestasis the tests that diagnose it and the tests you need having are Bile acids and your liver function tests (ALT & AST). Now. The doctor confirmed OC when my ALT had raised the first week. Now my midwife is trying to say the only blood test they look at is Bile acids and the ALT and AST is apparently nothing to do with Cholestasis as they increase in pregnancy sometimes. Now, I have had OC the past two pregnancies so surely she shouldn't say this? I also typed into Google 'Increase ALT and AST bloods in pregnancy' and all that came up was pages about OC and from the previous pregnancies I know very well that they look for ALT and AST and Bile acids for OC.

Back onto my results, my ALT is still raised. Apparently my AST results haven't come back for two weeks in a row now. My Bile acids have raised but not bad so not to worry about the bile acids at the moment. I have felt the itching a bit more the past week so I think the bile acids may raise again in the results, but I'll wait and see.

HOW THE GIRLS FEEL
The girls are super excited about meeting their baby brother. Mia's favourite name for Baby boy has been Ethan right from when she started to feel ok about being a big sister again. Both girls have been hugging my bump and trying to hear Baby boy moving. It's making me so excited for Baby boy to arrive and meet his big sisters.
BABY BOYBaby boy is moving so much. His kicks are just getting stronger and stronger. I can also feel that he is deffintley growing with the way he kicks and where he kicks now. I used a Doppler on Thursday and I could hear him moving around and kicking right at where the Doppler was.

SYMPTOMS
Exhaustion, pains when walking sometimes and emotional.

WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY
I haven't weighed myself this week and I haven't been great eating wise either. I am sure it will be a gain next week, but I am still trying not to go over board and just balance the week out.

  7. I remember getting really tired and emotional as I hopped on to the third trimester... I wasn't as bad once I got over it and then it struck again at 34 weeks! Sending (de)caffeinated thoughts and energy boosts! H x

  21. Love that your girls are excited! I don't blame you not weighing yourself. I totally stepped away from the scales when I was pregnant with my twins (I probably wouldn't have been able to see the scales anyway!)

  22. It's so nice that the girls are excited, it took me forever to embrace the fact I was going to be a big sister... Almost 18 years haha! Not really that long but it was a really long time and well after my second sister was born did I accept that they were here to stay. It's really awful when Midwives don't give you great information, I had an awful one who just brushed everything under the table but at least you know better xx

  23. I understand your frustrations with midwives... my sister recently gave birth and I was furious with a couple of them for the things they were saying :(

  24. Wow how big is your bump (in a non offensive way). It is one the best things when you start feeling a baby X #justanotherlinky

  25. I had such a rude midwife during one of my pregnancies, it made me wonder how some qualified in the first place

  26. I am so sorry that your midwife is being less than helpful. It is so annoying when the contradict what consultant's say and they always moan about consultants not knowing anything. You do look gorgeous. And it is so lovely that the girls are excited about having a baby brother. I really like the name Ethan. Hugs Lucy xxxx

  27. Lovely that the girls are still excited. It's really irritating when different medical professionals contradict each other - hope that gets resolved. #justanotherlinky

  29. Hi Beth, it must be infuriating when the midwife is giving you the wrong information, I don't blame you for being a little short with her. It must feel like a lifetime of waiting to your girls, exciting times!

Hope you start to feel less emotional soon.

    xx
