A Summer Walk

A friend and I made last minute plans Wednesday night and decided to go for a walk with the kids down a local cycle track, to a café. All the kids took their scooters and as you can see from the picture above, me and my friend were being big kids riding scooters too! Well... borrowing the kids' scooters! I hadn't ridden a scooter for so damn long... my legs really did hurt after it. Ouch.

The walk is about 3 miles in total, there and back. We knew the kids would end up asking us to carry scooters so I am glad in a way Mia decided on agreeing with a scooter instead of a bike. On the way, we saw a caterpillar. All the kids were really interested in it. Following its movements and looking very closely at it. Ismail, my friends little boy, asked me to take a photo so here it is -

Near half way to the café the kids decided to sit down to ride their scooter. Of course, they didn't get very far! But it was pretty funny watching them. They all did this more than once during our walk. The walk felt pretty long on the way to the café. Our first stop was to the toilet! Then we headed off back to the café and the kids had an ice cream each, whilst me and my friend had a cup of tea and a shared slice of Victoria sponge cake and half a scone. The prices were ridiculous! And we regretted it after because they weren't very tasty either. But the kids enjoyed their ice creams. They played around for quite a while before we headed off back home.

Half way back home they started to get very tired. I ended up carrying two scooters most of the way. Elliw decided to take her trousers down saying she wanted a toilet! She eventually pulled them up. My friends little girl got very tired and kept says a few funny things such as she wanted to lie down, it may not sound funny but the way she said it at the time was pretty cute!

In total we all walked 3 miles and took us nearly 2 hours. We had a full day and really got the kids tired out! I'm really looking forward for my days out like this in the next few weeks.

Have you done anything like this yet during the Summer Holidays?

  11. What a lovely way to kick off the holidays. Scooters were a great idea for your walk and judging by the looks on the children's faces plenty of fun too. Scooting is harder on your legs than you think, I'm not surprised it hurt, if I try I have to keep changing legs every few meters. I'd love you to come and link up with me for Country Kids, it is all about outdoor fun. Popping by from What's the story.

  12. I miss my scooter! It was my favourite toy when I was a child.

I love impromptu walks and I adore your photos. Good on you for being a big kid at heart, best way to be in my eyes. :)
