I have written a few posts about our days out in Beddgelert. It's about a 20 minute drive away from us and I just love going there. Especially when the sun is out, it is a lovely place to visit. You could easily spend your whole day there. Take a picnic, picnic blanket, towels, some outdoor toys and just sit by the river. It's such a family friendly place and those are the kinds of places I love visiting.
Beddgelert is a small village in the Snowdonia area, Gwynedd, North Wales. Beddgelert is the welsh word of 'Gelerts Grave'. Gelert, according to legendry, was a faithful hound of medieval Welsh Prince Llywelyn the Great. On your walk you will find a Gelert's grave.
These are the words of the grave -
"In the 13th century Llewelyn, prince of North Wales, had a palace at Beddgelert. One day he went hunting without Gelert, ‘The Faithful Hound’, who was unaccountably absent.
On Llewelyn's return the truant, stained and smeared with blood, joyfully sprang to meet his master. The prince alarmed hastened to find his son, and saw the infant's cot empty, the bedclothes and floor covered with blood.
The frantic father plunged his sword into the hound's side, thinking it had killed his heir. The dog's dying yell was answered by a child's cry.
Llewelyn searched and discovered his boy unharmed, but nearby lay the body of a mighty wolf which Gelert had slain. The prince filled with remorse is said never to have smiled again. He buried Gelert here".

There are many places to stay, eat and shop for souvenirs in Beddgelert. I would recommend Saracen's Head for a place to eat, we have been there a few times and the food, customer service and the place was brilliant. I would really recommend this place if you ever come to visit Gwynedd, North Wales.
We had another day out in Beddgelert last week. It was on one of the first nicest and sunniest day we have had since the Summer holidays started. It was a last minute decision. I went with my Dad, my brother and my girls. They were all excited to go. As you can see from the photos, they had a great time. Plus, they enjoyed their yummy ice creams afterwards. Perfect day for a Summers Day.
Have you ever visited Beddgelert? Did you enjoy it?
This is not a review. I was not paid to write this post. This is just my personal opinion and somewhere I really enjoy visiting.
