The National Trust, Plas Newydd

Bank Holiday Monday last month we went to visit Plas Newydd in Angelsey, a National Trust Park. You may remember our last visit to another National Trust Park, Penrhyn Castle. We love family days out with beautiful views and a location where the kids can run around freely and safely. When we arrived as Plas Newydd the car park was pretty full but we were lucky to find a space. There was a park next to the entrance so we decided to go there first whilst we waited for my uncle and my cousin.
When my uncle and cousin arrived we decided to go into the visitor centre to go into the gardens. You had to pay extra if you wanted to visit the house and the pass we had included a visit to the house. There was a lovely walk towards the garden and the kids were getting really excited. When we came out onto the main gardens, the views were just breathtaking. We were really to have chosen a day where the sun was out and warm. The kids started to run around and just enjoyed themselves.

We walked towards the 18th century mansion and was given a warm welcoming into the mansion. We were told which was was best to walk around and was also told we were unable to go upstairs with a pram, which I didn't mind as I knew I had to leave the house to go and feed Freddie somewhere soon. The first room we had a look in we were welcomed by another staff member who explained what room it was and told us a few history facts about the family and the house itself, which was very interesting. Not long after, I went to leave the house to feed Freddie whilst my partner, uncle and the kids went to see the rest of the house.

{ This was a private land and not the mansion that I talk about in this article}

I went to sit on the grounds near the mansion and I was taken back with the beautiful scenery of Snowdon and the Menai Straits. It was just beautiful. There was no better peaceful place to sit and feed Freddie. It was just perfect. Around half an hour after my partner, uncle and the kids finished in the mansion and came back to me. We then decided to explore the rest of the gardens and the woodland. The kids loved exploring and playing in the woodlands. We then came across a smaller but beautiful garden which had a little water fountain. Again, the scenery were breathtaking and so beautiful.

Overall, we were extremley happy that we went to visit Plas Newydd. If you are looking for somewhere for the kids to run around freely and safely, with beautiful scenery, then I would recommend Plas Newydd. I think the price is reasonable especially that you get a good day out in a beautiful place.

Price for adults: £9.80 and the price for kids is £4.90. Those prices are to visit the house and the gardens. The garden is open 10.30am until 5.30pm and the house is open 11am until 4.30pm.

Have you ever visited Plas Newydd?

  1. National Trust properties are just the best for providing kids with lots of outdoor space to run around and explore aren't they. I adore the pic of the butterfly/moth - you've really captured the detail x

  17. I've heard that getting a national trust membership is such a good idea as you can visit all the sights for free! A couple of my family members have it!
