Weaning Update, New Routine and His Little Hands #OrdinaryMoments

Freddie is 6 months old now, and it's all going a bit too fast for me. I wish time would slow down just a little but having to look after Freddie and his two sisters every day, each day just passes and passes. It does make me sad that he's growing up too quick. I look at him and I try to remember how he was in the newborn days and things are just so different. They way he looks, his hair, the way he feeds and more. Although cluster feeding was a nightmare at times and brought me to tears many times, I kind of wish I could go back to that time and just cherish it more. I've been breastfeeding for over 6 months now, and it's one of the best things I've ever done and experienced.

Freddie used to feed very often up until he reached around 5 months old. He now goes 4 or so hours without a feed and because he also has porridge in the mornings and food in the evenings. This week I've also started him on finger foods with toast and rusks, which he absolutely loves. He's got the hang of gripping onto things now, but he's still learning and doesn't understand if he throws his arms everywhere, then whatever he has in his hands, will go flying! It's funny too watch but mucky to have to pick up his chewed up sticky food all the time. Joys of parenthood eh?

His favourite food is banana and pear. He absolutely enjoys it. I've started to put texture into his food now, and he's taking it really well. I'm trying him with different foods and tastes which are quite hilarious to watch when he first tastes them. He looks at me like he's thinking "what the hell are you feeding me, woman?!".

Last Sunday evening, the night before he turned 6 months old we decided to settle him into his own bed in the evenings instead of downstairs, and then us having to take him up when we're going to bed. The first night was scary. I wanted him back down with us. I had tears in my eyes and it didn't feel right, but we had to do it one day. We thought 6 months was just the right age to start the new bedtime routine. It's turned out to be ok, but he still wakes up a few times during those hours before we go to bed ourselves which is a pain that we're having to up and downstairs all the time. Hopefully, he will soon stop that part because he still wakes up every 2 hours during the night. He's just a baby who hates sleeping!

I was looking at him the other day, in my arms looking back up at me half asleep. He finally nodded off to sleep, and he was holding his hands like a little old man. It melts my heart how he holds his hands, and I just had to capture it on camera, it wasn't a brilliant photo, but it means so much to me. He always does it when he goes to sleep, and he loves to play with his hands and wave around everywhere when he is settling to sleep for a nap or before bedtime. It's just adorable. Something I will always remember and treasure.
