HOW A SMART HOME IS A SAFER HOME

We're a family that love to venture out, whether it's out for the day or staying away somewhere for a few nights. Something that we always think about is keeping our home safe. I think most families think the same too, whether they are only going away for a few days in the UK or even abroad. Technology these days have definitely improved, and I've always been interested in how these new smart home devices worked. When More Than got in touch to see if we would be interested in taking part in their campaign 'How a smart home is a safer home', and providing us with a Google Home, I instantly said yes to testing it out.

We have been testing the Google Home out for a good few weeks now, and the first thing I can say is, it's amazing. My partner, the kids and myself absolutely love it, and it's used it every day. Whether it's me asking what the weather is for the day or the girls asking for their favourite song to play. It's always on for some reason. If someone doesn't know what the Google Home is, it's the smart voice home assistant.

Firstly, talking about how a smart home makes the home safer, here are just a few reasons how they do that:

Ring
This is something I hadn't heard of before if I am honest, but reading much more about it, it's something I would be more than happy to invest in. Whether you are away for the day, a few nights or abroad, you are able to know when your doorbell rings. You will be notified on your tablet, laptop or phone when someone rings your doorbell and you're able to answer them too. Another great touch to this smart device is that you are able to see and record the person that is at your door too. You don't even have to tell them that you are away, you could just tell them that you are unable to come to the door. This way, they think someone is home.

Nest
The Nest is another great smart home device to help keep your home safe while you are away (or at home). Same as the Ring device, it works with your laptop, tablet and phone. Except for the Nest lets you know if there's any smoke or high levels of CO2. Another great thing about the Nest is that you are able to enter an emergency number into the app which allows you to just tap the alert to notify the Emergency Services.

Leakbot
This is a device that my partner would really like to invest in. It's another device that can connect to your main devices; laptop, phone and tablet. The Leakbot is smart enough to let you know if there's even the smallest leak. This will save you money big time before the leak becomes a huge issue.

Then one of the devices that rule all of the above is the Google Home. Google Home is the main device that you can use to control all of the above devices. It's a unique shape, white with grey speakers all around the bottom half. It's not too big, and it's not too small. It's the perfect size to add somewhere on your shelf in any room. It's not too bulky either, so it fits pretty well anywhere in your home. It's a very modern look too, which is something I look for when looking to buy devices like this.

It's the perfect smart home device to have in a home, whether you have kids or not. As I'm a parent to three young children, my experience of having the Google Home in our home has been amazing. Having music in the background while I'm cooking or asking what the weather is going to be like while I'm getting the girls ready for school, is really handy. It's great that you don't need to hold anything, which makes it so much easier.

Google Home Features
- Enjoy listening to music or to the radio
-- To listen to music you must connect Google Play, Spotify or any other streaming services to your Google Home. You can do this on your Google Home app on your phone. The Radio is free.

- Get weather, traffic, sports updates and more by just saying "Hey Google.... (then your question)"

- Connect your Google to the Nest to stream videos to the TV

- Recognizes your voice but it also supports multiple users, which means everyone in the household can speak to Google

- Looks modern and the perfect size

- Great sound system

- Set alarms, timers and even get flight information using voice commands

So, not only is Google fun for the whole family, it's a smart device that makes your home safer too.
