There are a host of reasons you might be moving house. It could be that you are expanding your family with a new little arrival, you might have a new job that requires you to relocate, or you might just fancy a change. No matter what it is, when it comes to a house move, it’s always better to be prepared ahead of time to ensure it goes as smoothly as possible. When you have children it can make a house move a little trickier and you are going to want that extra bit of organisation so getting things ready sooner rather than later is a good idea! Here are our top tips for moving house that are sure to help it go that bit easier.
Get the little snags sorted as soon as you can
We all have those things in our house that we overlook when we live there. Whether it is a drawer with a handle that always falls off, a leaky pipe or a loose floorboard, we just come to live with it. These are things that you don’t want the new owner to have to deal with however, so it’s a good idea to get them sorted sooner rather than later. Don’t forget the garden and exterior of your house too - if you have leaky drainpipes, be sure to get in touch with a Drainage Company to get it sorted properly. You could also touch up any paint and clean the doors and windows.
Declutter before you pack
Over the years, chances are that you’ve accumulated a lot of things, some of which you don’t ever look at or even remember that you own anymore. To avoid moving a host of useful items to your new home, have a big declutter before you pack. Get rid of items that you don’t use or want and either take them to the tip or donate them to a charity shop. You could also sell things on sites like eBay or Vinted and make a bit of extra cash on the side - it’s a win win!
Have someone look after your kids and pets on moving day
While you love your children and pets very much, they can get in the way on moving day or you will spend your entire time wondering where they are and what they’re up to. Avoid this stress and see if there is someone who can babysit them for you. This will make your day a lot easier and they have something exciting to look forward to as well. They won’t find moving fun, but will enjoy seeing the new house at the end of the day!
Moving house is fun and exciting, but it is also a lot of work. If you are looking for a hassle free day (or less hassle than you might have otherwise) then these tips are sure to help.
