Things I'll Miss When My Girls Are Older

It's dawned to me recently that my girls are going to teenagers one day. I am very a little petrified of the thought that they are going to be walking to school by themselves, catching the bus to town with friends, and when they grow up to be adults it petrifies me that they are in the cruel world. Even though I will still be there to protect them, I won't be able to protect them or watch their every single move like I do now. There are so many things I am going to miss (even if I don't like them now!);

- Cuddles.
- Holding hands when going for walks.
- School runs.
- Goodnight Kiss.
- Bedtime stories.
- Running up to me to give me a big cuddles/kiss.
- Bath times.
- Family days out.
- Their crying sounds.
- Shopping for new clothes for them.
- Parents evening.
- School shows.
- Homework.
- Just sitting, watching them play.
- Watching kids tv shows and films.
- Early bedtimes.
- Their early wake up calls in the morning.
- The word 'Mammy'
- The randoms 'I love you'.
- Their little feet and hands.
- The cheeky little grins.

Shockingly I think I will miss their bickering.

There are so many things I will miss when they are older. I am dreading that first day at secondary school and the day they decide to move out. I honestly don't know how I will cope! The next stage for me I think, is the first day Mia is old enough to walk to school. I am not going to let her do that until she does reach high school. There are three roads to cross, 2 of them are main roads, to go to school. So I would rather safety first.

Do you ever think of your child's future? What things will you miss?

  1. Just make sure you enjoy every second with them now before they grow and I am sure there are things you will love doing with them as they grow.

  2. Awwwww .... it's must be quite surreal writing this post and mulling it over. I can't even imagine it yet because we haven't even started small school. However, I can relate with the sentiment of missing things about them as they grow. Thanks for the reminder to grab the moment and get the most of it; once they've grown, they've grown ... no going back. Good idea about not letting Mia do the walk until she's in secondary school. #MyFavouritePost

  3. It is NUTS, I think that when we decide to have a baby, that snaffling, mewing, wailing bald... pet (? can I say that?) is actually going to become a real person? Thanks for the post! #twinklytuesdays

  4. Awe, there is so much I will miss too! I will miss my son carrying around his blankie. I fully support you not letting your daughter walk to school until high school :-)

  5. Time really flies with children. When they are babies it feels inconceivable that they will be off on their own. but it happens so fast. #MMWBH

  6. Gosh, I haven't thought that far ahead yet but I'll definitely miss the cute little hands and feet! It is scary thinking about her being a teenager, I can't imagine what Lizzy's going to be like! #sharewithme

  7. They grow up way too quick. My twins are three and starting part time nursery in September and I really don't want them to! I want to keep them home forever! They seem too little and young! Thanks for linking up to the #BinkyLinky

  9. My little one recently started co-sleeping with us and she is 5. At first I was having none of it but then realised she's my baby and won't be for long so I cherish the extra time I get to cuddle here. It's the little things in life.

  10. Oh yes I can relate, I am always worrying about how my boy is going to cope in this cruel world when he's a teenager! Even though none of my worries will even materialize, I still imagine things and worry! Life as a mum hey? #sharewithme Sabrina xx

  11. It's such a long way off but having watched my nephew start secondary school last year, I know just how fast it goes! I'm going to miss the absolute innocence of him - it's just so adorable right now, I don't want it to ever change!! Let's enjoy every moment of them being little!
