Knowsley Safari Park

You may have read my recent post about our long weekend away in Frodsham/Chester to celebrate the Mother In Law's 60th Birthday. On the Saturday we went to Knowsley Safari Park. Mia and Elliw were super excited. Mia was excited to see the Rhino's and the Giraffes whilst Elliw was excited to see the Monkeys. I was just excited to see all the different animals and take lots of photos. In fact I took over 200 photos that day.

When we arrived there were many cars queuing to go in. We were lucky that my partners parents have a 7 seated car so we all fitted in the car and off we went. Every car was going really slow, taking lots of photos and parking up on the side to watch the animals. The road is big enough for two cars, so if you are not wanting to wait behind then you can over take the car in front, although I would advise to drive slowly.

First off we saw the lions. Before entering where the lions were there were signs to say no soft-top cars, lock doors and windows. All the lions were in one space lying down. One car hooted their horn and all the lions woke up but slowly went back down again. I managed to get a photo of the female and male lion, which I am proud of! What do you think?

We watched the lions for a while. There was a few cars in front of us and we were just lucky to have passed whilst the lions heads came up. Perfect time for photos.

My favourite part of the Safari Park was going through the part where the monkeys were! I would advise you to take wipers off and make sure there isn't anything on the car for the monkeys to break! Two monkeys were hanging and pulling on a back wiper on a car in front of us, which of course got my partner and his father pretty worried about his car! The minute we arrived into the monkey place, two monkeys jumped on top of the car. You need to drive slow around here. It was lovely seeing all the mother and baby monkeys, Elliw loved them but got a bit scared when they were jumping on the car. Great experience for children though.

Rhino's! Mia's animal that she was excited too see. They were a bit too far away, lucky I have a good zoom on my camera though. She didn't take much noticed of them because she couldn't really see them. There were a few Ostriches on the road where the cars were going. There was a big que once on both sides because this particular ostrich was very keen on going up to every car and looking through each window. It was pretty funny and interesting once the ostrich got closer. Of course, everyone's cameras were out!

We arrived to the end of the ride. There was a sign saying we could go around again. As you are allowed to go around the Safari park as many times as you like! Which is a bonus. At first we were pretty gutted as we thought they had no elephants and giraffes but as we went more forward towards the amusement park we saw the elephants and giraffes! We parked up and went for a walk to see them. The elephants were pretty far away so the girls weren't fully interested but we then saw some Meerkats and giraffes which the girls loved.

There were a few rides for children in the park. Perfect ending for the day. We went to buy a wristband each for the girls. Their great-grandmother {partners grandmother} gave the girls £10 each so we spent that on their wristbands. The wristbands are £10 each and allows the child to go any ride, as many times as they like. They went on most rides twice so they did make use of the wristbands, so I guess they were worth the price in the end.

The first ride they went on was the small swinging boat. I think they would have enjoyed the bigger one better. They also went on some animal ride, carousel, teacups {which went up really high!} and a train! They also got their face painted. Face paint was £4.50 each. They were both tigers.

We really enjoyed the whole day. Adults were allowed on anything for free, aslong as the child had their wristband. If you are going Chester way I would advise you to visit Knowsley Safari Park if you are looking for a fun family day out! Great fun for adults and children of all ages.

Have you visited Knowsley Safari Park? What did you think?

* I was not paid or given free tickets to write this. We paid for everything ourselves. I have written this post to document the day we had.

  14. I haven't visited this park but will definitely like too. Yeah, good shots of the Lions, monkey and the other animals. Good tips on driving slowly and taking wipers off. The thought that the lions could get to the cars doesn't appeal but it's a place I'd like to take my little one to, some day. :-) #IOTW

I quite like the giraffes but it would be interesting to see what my daughter would make of it!! The rides at the end look fun too and not bad for a tenner. I just paid £1.50 for a crappy ride in town for my girl hehe xx #mummymondays

  24. Visiting from Mummy Bloggers

This park looks like so much fun, and you got some wonderful shots of the animals and the rides! We have one similiar to yours, but we're in a cart, we don't actually get out of the car. We get to feed the animals but only certain food. Whenever I'm in England, I'll have to check this out.

  32. It looks fantastic! I love visiting safari parks, the animals are great to watch and there's so much space for them to roam! I think I would have been worried about the car with the monkeys around too, our nearest one doesn't have monkeys in the drive through area, which is kind if disappointing really. Liking the giraffe too, perfect for a safari day out.

  33. I love this. I would LOVE to go to a safari park, especially to see the lions, they look so majestic. It sounds like this day really didn't disappoint. I must admit I would be terrified of the monkeys around. They can be quite unpredictable at times. I've only ever heard of Longleat (I think that's probably because it's closer to us) but this safari park sounds just as good, I'm going to look it up now. Your photos are amazing. I really want to go. Thank you so much for linking to #whatevertheweather x
