Happy Mothers Day, Dad

I haven't really enjoyed Mothers Day. It just reminds me of my situation with my own Mother. I don't have a great relationship with her and even though I see her now and then, she can go a year or two without seeing me and my girls. I am now 23 years old, I need to get used to the fact that I won't have that Mother who will understand me, who will be there for me anytime I need a chat or need someone and isn't someone who I can just pop over to have a cup of tea and chat. Because she never has been and she hardly knows me. Before having my girls, the only woman I would buy for is my Nain and now I buy for my partners Mother and Nain too.

The only person I have to thank for on Mothers day is my Dad. My Dad is my world, he is my best friends and my rock. He had to be both parents when bringing me and my brother up as a single Dad. He did an amazing job and still does. I don't see him as often as I would like but I know I can tell him anything and he will be there for me. He has his own thing now, he goes to a cycling club and cycles each day, most weekends over 100 miles and he joins cycle races and so on. Although I try and phone him sometimes when I need a chat and he isn't in, but I know where he is, I get a little sad that he isn't home but I am so happy he is now finally doing what he loves doing. Something he couldn't do as a single Dad before. Something he loves and finally making friends and socializing with other people. Something he deserves. He deserves to be happy.

Thank you for taking me and my brother on as a full-time Dad when our Mother didn't want us.

Thank you for giving up your full-time night job to take care of me and my brother.

Thank you for doing all of my washing and the rest, and learning me that men do house chores too.

Thank you for always giving us the best Christmases and Birthdays.

Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on when I needed a hug.

Thank you for being there when I needed someone to talk too.

Thank you for always being on the other side of the phone, anytime time of day (or night!) when I need you.

Thank you for being my labour partner when I was having Mia.

Thank you for helping me buy things for Mia when I was expecting.

Thank you for trying your hardest to buy the best things for us.

Thank you for taking us out to so many places.

Thank you for taking us to Great Yarmouth for a Haven holiday.

Thank you for taking me and my brother to my Mother's every other week (without you we wouldn't of seen her).

Thank you for always sticking by me.

Thank you for believing in me.

Thank you for making me who I am today.

Thank you for giving me the best childhood.

Thank you for all the laughs.

Thank you for everything.

Thank you for being you.

Thank you for being my Dad.

Thank you for being a Taid to my girls.

Thank you, Dad.

  5. You dad sounds fab. As a single parent myself, albeit not a dad, it's always good to read about the fab job other single parents have done! #KCACOLS

  6. I think that it's always important for people to show appreciation for dad's on Mothers Day as some are doing two jobs being mother and father for their kids.

  19. Aw, I love this and that's a gorgeous pic at the bottom. Mothers Day really isn't as clear-cut for everybody so it's lovely when people commemorate the others in their life that have done the job of a Mother instead. Thanks for linking up to #MarvMondays. Kaye xo

  28. Such a lovely post! I hope he has read it and feels proud?! Astrangemsnt from mothers can make mothers day so much harder (I know). but you're also a mother.... A mother without tradition or influence, it's a blank slate for our children... We can be that mother we never had xxx

But it sounds like your father certainly made up for her absence in your childhood. You are very lucky to have such a loving and caring Daddy.
