Your weekly trip to the supermarket, as well as food and
toiletries is likely to include cleaning products, but did you know that every
time you scrub the toilet and wash the floors, you could actually be doing more
harm than good?
We all use a wide assortment of cleaners specifically designed to clean
bathrooms, drains and glass, as well as bleaches and polishes to ensure our
homes stay smelling great and looking sparkly. While they do clean our surfaces
and leave them germ-free, they also contribute to indoor air-pollution, are
poisonous if ingested and can even be harmful if inhaled or touched.
Seems crazy that something you think is a good idea to use around
the house, can actually be so dangerous - but some cleaners are among the most
toxic products found in the home.
So, what is the answer - because living in a messy, dirty home
isn’t going to be very good for your physical or mental health either? How do
you keep your home clean without using harsh cleaning products?
Well, you could use all ‘natural’ products….
Not convinced this is possible? Well, Blogger Jen Gale ditched her usual store bought cleaning sprays
for two natural cleaning products. She did this as part of a year long
challenge, where instead of buying anything new, she would simply have to make
do and mend. The rules were – everything bought must be second hand, pre-owned,
vintage or reconditioned. The only things she could buy new were food and some
essential toiletries and with these rules in place, she started to look for
gentler alternatives to harsh chemicals.
Through research she found that there are two main ingredients in
every product; white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. The thrifty blogger, who
has now replaced various products with just these two things, claims that it
does actually work.
But, how will this be
better for your home, you ask?
Chemicals from modern cleaning products can potentially cause
asthma, eczema, allergies and other disorders. While a spritz here and there
won’t do too much harm, each and every time you spray a cleaning product it
will add to and build up the chemicals in your home.
Natural products, as
well as not being full of the chemicals like your every day cleaning products,
are also a lot cheaper! Plus, it is not just your home it is better for – it is also better for the environment!
Alternatively, if you don’t have enough time to clean, let alone
enough time to consider the right cleaning
products to use – why not call the professionals in? If you dread household
chores then take a look at the services on offer at Molly
Maid – they can do the jobs you hate, so you don’t have to.
Nice post. This is very useful. Thanks for sharing.
