I've Climbed Snowdon!

For many months my Dad has wanted to take me up Snowdon. Last week he phoned me and asked me if I would walk up Snowdon on Sunday 6th July (2014). I said yes straight away. I don't know why, because I've always said I would never do it. I think because I have lost just over 3 stone I thought to myself, why not? It's going to be a big achievement. So I decided to say yes.

I made sure I was prepared. I took 2 bottles of water, my camera, my phone and my Dad gave me two walking sticks and had a coat and fruit packed. It was quite warm with a breeze when we started walking. We walked up a place called Rhyd Ddu. It was really difficult to be honest. It was more climbing than walking, I was constantly having to climb up big rocks and having to watch the side.

Before we reached the difficult part it started to rain. Which didn't help at all because I was getting really nervous on with the rocks getting slippy and the mud getting really wet. I can say we got absoloutley drenched. But we still carried on!

One main thing I loved about walking up was the views. They were amazing. There was a really difficult part near the top where I had to even help my Dad get past. It didn't help that he is scared of heights and we were walking right on the edge which wasn't good. But he did it and I was very proud of him. I felt we were constantly walking up hill and felt it was never ending, in the end I started crying. I couldn't feel my legs, I was getting fed up and getting really tired. I just wanted it to end. My Dad made me go on, and by the time I knew it, I was by the café! Finally.

We decided to go right to the top of Snowdon first before we went into the café. I was quite nervous going up the steps - but I DID IT!!!! I was so happy and proud of myself. I actually did it.

Me and my dad decided to go down the opposite way. I am so glad we did, there were a few steep parts but it was much easier and felt much safer. I really enjoyed walking down Snowdon. We were unlucky we got caught in hailstones and bad winds but it soon passed. Just got used to it being quite cold but loved it when the temperature picked up.

I was so happy when we reached the bottom. I am so proud of myself that I have climber Wales' biggest mountain of 1085m. I am planning to do it again in a few weeks or months. Will deffintley make sure it's a day like it was today or make sure it's sun all day.

  10. Oh wow what an amazing story! Well done you too, that's an amazing achievement. Even with those fabulous views it must have been really hard work. Reminds me of a trek I did in New Zealand in 2008. I didn't know it was 20kms long and we were a little tired after a wedding...! Great post, thank you so much for sharing with #whatsthestory, sorry to be late commenting
