How am I even writing this? It doesn't seem that long ago that I announced Freddie's birth. Time has gone by so quickly, and I can't believe my last baby, my first little boy is 6 months old already. How is that even possible? It makes me feel sad that he is growing and growing each day, but I'm also so happy and feel so lucky that I get to spend every single day with him, at home. Freddie is by far the hardest baby I've had out all 3, but I honestly wouldn't change a thing (maybe a bit more sleep, though?).
There's a much bigger age gap between Elliw and Freddie than there is with Mia and Elliw, so it felt like I was going back to basics having a newborn all over again. New things were out, I felt like I was old fashioned and didn't know much. I have asked the Health Visitor and many parent groups on Facebook countless of questions. I also said I'd never co-sleep again, after co-sleeping with Mia, but what am I doing? Co-sleeping with Freddie! It just works for us, and it's just how I manage to get a full on 1 or 2 hours sleep through the night. It is uncomfortable at times, but I know I will miss the cuddles one day.
DEVELOPMENT
Freddie's learnt many things in his first 6 months of his life. It makes me sad that these milestones are the last ones I'll see, but when he reaches a new milestone, I feel so proud and lucky that I was the one that was with him and seeing him learn new things.

+ Sit up un-supported for a few seconds
+ Sit up supported
+ Wiggle himself around
+ Giggles and smiles

SIZE // WEIGHT
I have now packed up all of Freddie's 3-6 months clothes and they should have been packed up a long time ago too. He's been in 6-9 months clothing since he was around 4-5 months old. Although he is in 6-9 months clothing now, he will fit into some 9-12 months clothes such as dungarees and depend where the clothes are from. His legs are really chubby and so 6-9 dungarees poppers on the legs will pop open! I am waiting for the Health visitor to visit soon, so he has not been weighed - yet.
SIBLINGS
The girls are absolutely fantastic with Freddie. Mia is a great help and will carry and hold Freddie if I need a hand. Very often she will come to where I am and ask to hold him. I do think by looking at them, they've both got a special bond. I'm not sure what it is but Freddie always looks up to Mia, and I think he's going to look up to his big sister as he grows older.
Elliw is also fantastic with Freddie. She loves playing with him and now that he is getting older and interacting a little more, she is even more interested. I have to tell her a few times to be calm as she can be a little to rough but she is still young and learning. They both have a good laugh when they play together, and I am looking forward to the time he can crawl and walk to see how their bond grows.
FEEDING // WEANING // BREASTFEEDING
Freddie still loves the boob! I still want to feed him until he is at least 12 or 18 months, unless he weans himself off before then. It's sad to think that's only another 6 months or so of breastfeeding. I can't imagine a day without breastfeeding. I am so glad I decided to do it this time and stuck at it for this long. I absolutely love it and wouldn't change a thing. It has been hard, especially the times he was cluster feeding but for the past few weeks, he has been going up to 4 hours without a feed.
He now has two meals a day which absolutely loves. His favourite fruits is banana and pear, and he also loves his porridge in the mornings. Seeing as he is 6 months old, I have decided to experiment a bit more. The past week he has had petit filous yoghurts as puddings, which he is loving. I'm going to slowly change the texture of his food and see how he likes it. I'm also going to try finger food with him.
SLEEPING
He's still pretty rubbish with his sleep. He will have 3 naps a day, and each of those naps will usually last 20-30 minutes. However, recently for the past week, his first nap of the day has been lasting around 40-60 minutes but an hour is a push! We have seemed to have lost the evening routine each day where he will sleep from 8/9 until 11/12 and most nights recently he won't settle until 11/12pm. It's still hard going being sleep deprived, but having two other children to look after too and having to wake up early each morning to take them to school you just have to get on with it.
TEETHING
Freddie has been pretty bad with his teeth, bless him. We've had a lot of crying, screaming crying and sleepless days and nights. I hate seeing him in so much pain. Bonjela works sometimes, and we've even had to give him Calpol for a few days as he was just so unsettled with them. His two bottom front teeth have come through. He's currently cutting through one of his top front tooth and one on the right side of his front tooth! I think his second top front tooth is not far behind either.

ReplyDeleteI can't believe he is 6 months as I remember you announcement! Mad. He sounds like he is growing really well. I can't imagine not breastfeeding now..it will be weird when that ends. Hope the teething settles; it is horrible when they are in so discomfort xx #marvmondays
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely update, he is gorgeous! I can't believe he's 6 months old already though, that seems to have flown by! X
ReplyDeleteAwww bless him, he is such a cutie! Im like you, I really dont feel like it was all that long ago that we were announcing our pregnanices and now look, theyre 6 months old! Lots of similarities with our little one with the weaning (I've been thinking about trying him with a petit filous too!) and the lack of naps in the day time. I think I'm lucky as hes only really started to sleep through the night recently so hopefully it'll be the same for you once his teeth cut through? Fingers crossed for you1 Lovely update :-) Thanks for sharing it on #MarvMondays. Emily
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that our little boys are six months old. How did that happen? It sounds like Freddie is doing so well (apart from the sleep thing) and he is a real cutie. You must be so proud. He has so many teeth. Little Mister H seems to have been teething for ages but he doesn't have any teeth yet. I hope that they start coming through soon. And can I just say that I adore those dungarees that he is wearing in the final photograph. They are amazingly adorable. Hugs Lucy xxxx Popping over, very belatedly due to a sick family, from #MarvMondays xxxx
